Making a difference in our Community

Shaping our District's future through our Strategic Planning
I am most proud of contributing to the creation of two strategic plans for the district during my first and second terms. This was a valuable team-building experience that taught me so much about the values we hold so dear: belonging, integrity, equity, and learning. Working with the 4 Values, the 9 strands of the braid & the 1 Aspirational Goal has been a profound experience.

Connecting with parents and caregivers
I had the privilege of chairing the ad hoc parent engagement committee. Our goal was to find effective ways for the Board of Education (Trustees) to communicate interact in a meaningful and positive way with parents and caregivers of school-aged children in the community, ensuring their voices are heard & acknowledged & that they feel a strong sense of Belonging to our school community.

Advancing truth and reconciliation and student leadership
As chair of the Education Committee for most of the past two terms, my focus on truth and reconciliation and First People's Principals of Learning has been invaluable. I've also supported Indigenous initiatives to partner with the shishálh Nation and worked closely with the DSLT (District Student Leadership Team). We honour the lands & waters of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw which we work & play on at the beginning of every meeting.
Supporting essential programs for our students
My focus has been on securing funding for food security programs, supporting early childhood education and childcare initiatives, and expanding school hours to assist working families with after-school programs. I'm also a strong advocate for the arts and music programs in our schools.
"Sue's dedication to our schools is evident in every initiative she champions. Her work has truly enriched our children's learning experience."
